I’d like to start off by apologizing for the delay in getting this out to you as I’m sure some of you have been waiting and hopefully checking in diligently to see when it would be done. In this portion we get to cover the Brides maid event of the WSOP the 50K H.O.R.S.E. Championships, we also see a few more No-limit Hold’em events as well as many of the poker variations on display. So without further ado let’s get to it.

Event #40 2 – 7 Triple Draw (Limit) Sunday June 22nd 12pm

This 2-7 Triple Draw event is a limit structure where all the players receive 5,000 in chips with blinds increasing every 60 minutes it’ll make for a really great tournament. You can expect to see a large amount of Pro’s in the field as they are the ones that specialize in this form of Poker. Last years winner was Rafi Amit who took home $227,005 after besting 209 players, however last year it was a $1,000 re-buy event thus swelling the prize pool. This year you can expect to see something like 200 – 250 players leaving first place taking in about $200,000. This event should garner some coverage either by ESPN or WSOP Live.

Event #41 Mixed Hold’em Limit/No-limit Sunday June 22nd 5pm
This is the second mixed limit/no-limit event of the WSOP and at $1,500 this one is more accessible to the masses. Last year this event drew a respectable crowd of 620 this year that number should increase but probably not too much. With first place coming in around the $205,000 that last year’s winner received. The event will give players 3,000 chips and with the blinds going up every 60 minutes it will be similar to the other events of this type where all the action is in the no-limit portion. However to reign supreme here you will need to be successful in the limit phase.

Event #42 Seniors No-limit Hold’em World Championship Monday June 23rd 12pm
The Seniors Event is the second of 3 non-open events where you have to meet certain criteria to play. In this one you have to be 50 years of age or older to compete. This event will give the players 2,000 in chips and have 60 minute blinds. This year should again see another increase in the number of entrants from last year and end up with about 2,000 gray beards all fighting for nearly $400,000.

Event #43 Pot-limit Omaha Hi-low Split 8 or Better Tuesday June 24th 12pm
At $1,500 this is a great event for lovers of Hi-low Omaha, and combined with the Pot limit format many players who like action will be drawn to this event. Last year Lukasz Dumasnki took home $227,454 after beating out 687 entrants. This year these numbers should stay about the same. With there being the H.O.R.S.E. event starting the next day this event should be comprised of amateurs as the pro’s will be taking the day off to prepare for the big 50K buy-in to start the next day. All the entrants will receive 3,000 and with 60 minute blinds there should be a lot of action.

Event #44 No Limit Hold’em W/Re-buys Wednesday June 25th 12pm
This event is in a tough spot in the tournament as later on in the afternoon the H.O.R.S.E. event will garner the spotlight as well as the players. However with a $1,000 buy-in and the re-buy aspect there should still be lots of players and lots of re-buys. Last years field of 1,048 shouldn’t diminish much nor should its 2,336 re-buys. As such the winner can still expect to see a pay day of nearly ¾ of a million dollars at the end. All players begin with 2,000 chips and the re-buys are allowed for the first 120 minutes (end of level 2). With the cameras around for the H.O.R.S.E. event this event should receive spin off coverage.

Event #45 World Championship H.O.R.S.E. Wednesday June 25th 5pm
The H.O.R.S.E. Event the largest buy-in tournament of the WSOP and the largest in the world until the 100K event was created this year at the Aussie Millions. This event is the one of the Premier center pieces of the WSOP. In its 3rd year the winner is instantly immortalized with a win here. This event will receive lots of camera coverage from ESPN as one of there main features for them. Last year Freddy Deeb out lasted 148 of the world’s best on route to the victory. This year will mark the first time that the David “Chip” Reese award will be presented to the winner. This event which is a mixed format tests the competitors at every facet of the game of Poker. It’ll be 5 grueling days of Poker for these players that will have 100k in chips however here the blinds start at 300/600 for Hold’em and Omaha and 200/600 with 100 ante for the Seven Card Variations. With blinds increasing every 90 minutes it will change the dynamic considerably. To give you an idea of the talent pool last years players that cashed included 1st Freddy Deeb, 5th Kenny Tran, 6th David Singer, 7th Barry Greenstein, 9th Gabe Kaplan, 10th Dewey Tomko, 14th Greg Raymer, 16th Mike Matusow. This year first place and the number of entrants should remain constant so at 2.25 million it’s a nice score.

Event #46 No Limit Hold’em 6 handed Thursday June 26th 12pm

This is the third event of its kind at this years WSOP and at $5,000 it’s the biggest buy-in yet. Last year saw 728 players compete for this bracelet leaving Bill Edler with just under 1 million in cash and some serious bragging rights. This year may be a little smaller again with the H.O.R.S.E. event taking a lot of the spot light and players with the deep pockets however this event should do just fine. And with 10k in chips and with the levels increasing every 60 minutes there should be a lot of play and some very good play. This event should also receive some spin off coverage the same as others around this time. This will be an event of focus plus for those who are unlucky enough to bust out of the H.O.R.S.E. event in the first day they could hit this event up and make for some interesting scenarios i.e. Tilt session.

Event #47 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low 8 or Better Thursday June 26th 5pm
Last year this event was won by Tom Schneider who was named WSOP Player of the Year last year. This was his 2nd bracelet of the World Series and is always a respected one, due to the level of skill required in this format. The 668 entrants from last year may go down as a result of the increase in buy-in from $1,000 – $1,500, that increase in buy-in should off set the decrease in numbers and keep first place in the $150,000 range. With 3,000 chips and 60 minute blinds this will be a great tournament for those lovers of the Hi-low and as you know it’s a love it or hate type game no player sits on the fence with this game.

Event #48 No Limit Hold’em Friday June 27th 12pm & Event #49 No Limit Hold’em Saturday June 28th 12pm
I am grouping these two events into one as with like all the others there isn’t much new to say they all should see about the same types of numbers and returns on investment for those lucky enough to cash. Friday’s event is a $2,000 buy-in leaving players with 4k in chips and on Saturday the buy-in drops to $1,500 leaving players with 3k in chips all competing over 60 minute blinds, as well as competing for T.V. Time as the H.O.R.S.E. Event winds down.

Again I want to apologize for the delay in getting this 5th of 6 installment of the WSOP review up for you. Look for the final 6 events to be up by the end of this week. With that I say to all of you good luck at the tables! May those Pocket Rockets holdup.

By Stay puff!
