By now many of you may have heard about the 2+2 prop bet between user WCGRider and several dozen 2+2ers. Its certainly one of the more daring and unbelievable prop bets we’ve seen, and one of the most impossible we would have said when it started. But now, a third of the way through the 31 day bet, we’re not so sure.
Ok, basically the bet is WCGRider (whose real name is Doug Polk) said he could win $10,000 playing only 25NL (.10-.25 blinds, $25 buy in) in one month. What? 400 buy ins in a month? Well he asked for action while getting 5:2 on his money and 2+2 gave it, to the tune of just over $50,000 in bets or potential profit for Polk, against his roughly $20,000. The money was escrowed to reputable forum mods on 2+2 for safekeeping and will be awarded to the winner or winners at the end of 31 days.
The bet stated he could only play on PokerStars, he could only play 25NL and he had to use PokerTracker to record his stats for all to see. On top of that he also has a web cam which has been running fairly consistently showing the back of his chair and head as he grinds day in and day out.
Through the first eleven days WCGRider has won just over $3000, while he needs to have won between $3400-3500 at this point to be pace for successful finish. He started off on fire winning over $1100 in his first two days! However, he cooled off and played over 50k hands of breakeven poker, which would take the life out of anyone, especially when 24 tabling as much as 15-18 hours a day.
Just when people thought Polk was out of it he came into the thread on 2+2 which has been tracking his progress (and has close to a half million views in under 2 weeks) and asked for MORE action! He wanted to make more bets despite struggling to give him more motivation to play. Shocking considering 50k would be enough to motivate most of us, and although Doug Polk is a successful mid stakes player at only 19 years old, 50k certainly has to be a lot for him as well. Some people even thought he was dogging it the last several days in order to give the illusion of losing to garner more bets before crushing his 10k goal, however that seems very unlikely.
Regardless, he got back on track and updated that he’s over a quarter of the way to his goal in about one third the time. Even though he’s a couple days off pace, one day of running well at a limit where people play very poorly would propel him right back into the thick of it. Whether he’s the favourite or the dog in this bet is still undetermined, but it should be an exciting finish over the next 21 days.
