The New Yorker Svetlana Gromenkova has won the $1,000 Ladies World Championship after she beat out 1190 other woman and earned herself $224,702 of shopping money out of the $1,082,900 prize pool. Once again Anh Le finished in second place as she did in 2005 when she lost to Jennifer Tilly.
Bodog Poker was happy to announce that Svetlana Gromenkova is one of their poker rooms customers and that she had actually won her 2008 WSOP Main Event seat at Bodog Poker just last month. If Gromenkova name sounds familiar its because this event was not her first rodeo, he has ran deep in several major tournaments including a final table appearance at the 2007 US Poker Championship and had previously cashed in three other WSOP events.
The ladies only tournaments have been scrutinized by many of the top female players for being sexiest and prejudice, but one thing they can’t argue is the turn out of this ladies event. 1190 is a huge tournament and it’s good to see that woman enjoy playing against other women.
Final table starting chip counts:
Svetlana Gromenkova (New York , New York) 553,000
Christine Priday (Denver, Colorado) 448,000
Patty Till (Avon, Indiana) 312,000
Debbie Mitchell (Miramar, Florida) 224,000
Sue Porter (Houston, Texas) 211,000
Yesenia Garcia (Modesto, California) 210,000
Anh Le (San Jose, California) 191,000
Marla Crumpler (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) 163,000
Roslyn Quarto (Edison, New Jersey) 73,000
The final table began just before 3:00 PM and the nine woman at the final table had the $224,702 first place prize and a gold WSOP bracelet in sight.
The goal of first place came to an abrupt ending when 54 year old Sue Porter from Houston, Texas, was sent home when Porter called Roz Quarto’s all in on the turn with the board of Ah-Ks-5h,7s. Porter held Ac-7c and Quarto held Ac-Kc. The river came an 8 of hearts and Porter was sent home in 9th place. Yesenia Garcia, a 26 year old mother from Modesta, California, was the next lady to be sent home in 8th place. On hand 34 Garcia raised all in and Crumpler called with Ad-J0d and Garcia pushed with Ac-10c. The flop was huge for Garcia, Jc-8c-9s, providing her with a opended straight draw and nut flush draw. The turn was a 2d and river was a 10 of spades. Crumler caught a break with Garcia missing a huge draw on the turn and river.
On hand 84 the classic race was on with Roz holding pocket queens and Chris Priday holding Ace King. The ace hit the flop and no queen followed and Quarto picked up $36,277 for 7th place. After this hand Priday was chip leader with 574,000 in chips and Marla Crumpler was crumpled with 146,000 in chips and it didn’t get better for her. On hand 134, she got all her chips in with pocket kings and was called by Anh Le holding A-9. An ace hit and Crumpler finished in 5th place and won $60,101.
The next Victim was Priday who finished in 4th place and earned $73,637. Her all in push with Q-10 on a flop of Q-7-3 was called with Gromenkova holding pocket aces. Priday was unable to suck out and stack was crippled and 6 hands later he was officially eliminated by Anh Le.
Three women were left and there chip stacks were:
Svetlana Gromenkova 1,132,000
Anh Le 902,000
Patty Till 345,000
Patty Till was super short stacked against Le and Gromenkova. Till ended up pushing all in with K-6 and Gromenkova quickly called with pocket 9’s and flopped a set. Till was eliminated and earned $87,715 for 3rd place.
Gromenkova had her hands full when she was playing Anh Le, although she did come in with the chip lead when they started playing heads up. Early on in the match the two ladies put all there chips in preflop and Le held Ad-5d and Gromenkova had her dominated with Ah-Kc, the flop came 7h-5c-2c and Gromenkova looked disgusted that a 5 hit. The turn and river did not bring a king and Lee doubled through Gromenkova.
Le pulled in the lead after this hand, but Gromenkova’s aggressive play against Le’s timid play allowed her to make timely all ins and re-raises and regain her chip lead. Gromenkova went all in again and Le decided to defend herself and called with Ad-6h and was choked to see that Gromenkova held a real hand with pocket kings. The flop came 10h-8s-7c providing Le a 9 for a straight or a Ace to catch on the turn and river. The turn came a King giving Gromenkova top set and the river even came an ace to pour salt on the wound. Gromenkova took down the pot and won her first World Series of Poker bracelet and Le took home $144,567 for her efforts.
Congratulation Sveltana we wish you the best of luck and look forward to seeing your name in future WSOP events.

Why is it that night after night we can watch the same old WSOP tournaments since 2006 but not be able to see the Ladies tournament once every few months?
Also, I have just watched Joan Rivers on TV(Celebrity Apprentice) go into a rage— rude and yelling telling Annie Duke that poker players are “white trash”. Wish this could be played to a large audience of poker players….Joan just might be a big loser.
Thanks
