In what is being seen as a huge victory for the Poker Players Alliance (PPA), The Republican Party has removed anti-internet gambling language from the election platform ahead of the Nation Republican Convention to be held this week in Minnesota. This is being fueled by a number of things but isn’t hurt by the fact that a former Republican Senator Alfonse D’Amato is Chairman of the Poker Players Alliance and supporter of Presidential Nominee John McCain.
This is seen as a huge step considering both the 2000 and 2004 Republican Election Platforms have included anti-gambling language. To date the PPA has amassed over One Million Members, the group has donated over $350,000 to different candidates as well as spent over $1,200,000 so far in this election year.
The website CQPolitics.com has stated that in the latest draft of the Republicans Election Platform the language is gone, and was reinforced by Senator Richard Burr (North Carolina) who said the language was one of a few smaller ticket items to be left on the cutting room floor. Senator Burr had this to say:
“We firmly believe that if this is a big enough issue, it would be offered as an amendment”
Now bear in mind that the parties official platform is yet to be released and won’t happen until it is presented to the full Republican Party and voted on September 1st 2008 at the National Convention, so if you have an opinion make yourself heard by submitting comments to gopplatform2008.com or by contacting your Senator or Governor and making yourself heard! And please don’t forget to vote whether it be Republican, Democrat or Independent please vote!
