PokerStars has reported the birth of their Australian New Zealand Poker Tour that is being abbreviated to ANZPT. The decision came after the huge success the 2008 Asian Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) stops had in Auckland and Sydney Australian. The first ANZPT is already slated for February 4th 2009 and the entire tour will run until July 2009.
These two stops in Australia proved that an estimated 400,000 Aussies play poker and would consider playing in tournaments and that Australia could handle its very own branded PokerStars tour. “Following the success of the second season of the APPT earlier this year, we are excited to be expanding poker further throughout this region. The ANZPT will provide Australian and New Zealand poker players with a professionally executed tour in their own backyard,” commented ANZPT spokesperson, Danny McDonagh.
The first stop will be at the Sky City Casino in Adelaide, Australia from February 4-7th. This series will feature a main event that has a buy-in of $3,250 AUD with a cap of 240 entrants. PokerStars is promising that a significant portion of their Team PokerStars Pro’s will be attendance as well with WSOP Main Event and Australian born Joe Hachem will be in competing.
PokerStars is now offering nightly freerolls from Monday to Saturday until the February kick off, in which the top 20 players qualify for a Sunday evening final, where a winner of each Sunday final will receive a prize package to the ANZPT in Adelaide.
The prize package is worth $4,450 AUD and includes:
$3,250 direct buy-in, 5 nights stay at the Hyatt Hotel in Adelaide, Travel Expenses
