The events of ‘Black Friday’ are still affecting the online poker world. On April 15th 2011 the US Government took action against a number of the largest online poker rooms that accepted US players. These actions included seizing the poker sites domain names. PowerPoker has not been involved in any of these events but they have just announced they are to pull out of the US market.

PowerPoker will not be allowing any US players to sign up for new accounts with them but if you are a US player and already have an account with PowerPoker then you will be able to carry on playing as normal.

The 2011 WSOP starts tomorrow and it promises to be another poker spectacular. This years WSOP has more bracelets to be won than last year with 58 bracelets to be won. There will not be 58 bracelet winners as every year players somehow manage to fight their way through the huge fields to win 2 or more bracelets. Proving that poker is a game of skill combined with that bit of luck you need in all sports.

Phil Ivey is well known for having the best poker face in the game, but when 2010 WSOP Event #37 was in the books it was nothing but grins and smiles from the 33 year old poker icon who finished off a tough final table to claim the $329,840 first place prize money and more importantly for him his eighth career WSOP bracelet. With his victory tonight Phil Ivey moved into a tie with Erik Seidel for fifth all time on the WSOP wins list.

2010 WSOP Event #2 the $50,000 buy-in Player’s Championship is now in the books and in the end it was Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi victorious capturing his first career bracelet, the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy and $1,559,046 first place prize money. The Canadian Poker Tour has recently announced that they have signed professional poker player Lacey Jones as its new face and spokesman for the tour. Jones will be attending the live events, with the first one being in Calgary at the Cash Casino in late February. She will also be displayed on the CPT’s brand new online video network.

The durrrr challenge is now 64% complete and Dwan and Antonius are approaching their one year anniversary of the challenge. A couple of days ago Dwan played Antonius for a total of 2,112 hands and added $209k to his lead, which puts him ahead by over $1 million.

Full Tilt Poker recently released a interesting new poker format, they call it Rush Poker. This new format is only for no limit hold’em currently, and either NL25, NL50 & NL100. The idea behind rush poker is to get players the maximum number of hand possible per hour with numbers expected to be upwards of 300-400 hands per hour.

Popular online poker site PokerStars.com announced today a special promotion that will allow players to save 15-50% on merchandise through their VIP store. The promotion will run from January 12-31 with a different product offered at a discount each day. Full Details Here

The poker world experienced a great loss hour ago as one of its more colorful personalities, professional poker player Amir Vahedi, passed away in Las Vegas due to complications from diabetes. This news came as a shock to the poker community and has been the source of many poker tweets and posts on poker forums the past couple of hours. Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan and Patrik Antonius met for their 27th session last night on Full Tilt Poker and Dwan continued to impress by increasing his overall lead to $697,532. 1063 hands were played, which passed the half way mark in the challenge.
