Calvin Ayre Leaves Bodog
Bodog Entertainment released a press release stating that Calvin Ayre has stepped down from his roll as the face of Bodog. This move comes months after Bodog ownership was transferred to the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group out of Canada.
In reality Calvin was more of a company spokes person and celebrity, in recent years than he was a business man. He has been separated from the day to day operations of the company for quite some time, so in reality the same high quality products and service players have grown accustomed to should remain intact.
What started as an online gambling site including a sportsbook and casino has evolved into an online poker room, international record label, television production agency, MMA promotion firm and much more. This is a huge feat for a Saskatchewan native man who started the company with a five figure investment in 1994.
“While it has been great fun to live my life in front of the world’s cameras and online though my blog, I am looking forward to a more private and meaningful period of giving back and working to support the Calvin Ayre Foundation,” Ayre said.
Cake Poker offers Epassporte Alternative
With Epassporte abruptly blocking any gambling related transactions to US customers last week, poker rooms were scrambling to find US friendly alternatives. Cake poker has announced a partnership with online wallet Quickender, alerting customers through mass emails this afternoon. Cake had been especially criticized because of its lack of American deposit methods on numerous poker forums.
Quicktender is an e-wallet that works on the same principle as Neteller or Epassporte, allowing you to deposit and withdraw, and is available on any poker site that offers UseMyWallet; another popular deposit option. However, the downside appears to be the larger than usual deposit fees. It costs nothing to open a Quicktender account, but depositing to your account via credit card costs you a 5% service fee. Depositing via your bank account is free, however withdrawals back to your bank will run you $30. Wiring money directly from your bank is free, but typically all banks charge some sort of fee for this service as well. These fees are certainly higher than the industry standard and might ultimately deter lower stakes players from using Quicktender.
Cake Poker is pledging to have other deposit methods available within the coming weeks and look for other sites that offered Epassporte to do the same. This is just another example of getting your money from your pocket to your poker site and back again being increasingly difficult in a post UIGEA world for American poker players.
