Television poker fans will be stoked to hear that High Stakes Poker is returning to the Game Show Network for its 6th season in February.
There has been no official statement made by the show or the network. However, a very reputable online poker news site, PokerNewsDaily.com has caught wind that the poker show is slated to start filming new episodes in November and will be broadcasting the footage in early 2010.
High Stakes Poker season 5 was a huge success and Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan can take the most credit for making the show entertaining. He single handily initiated tilt in several players and played such a lose aggressive style, which create monstrous pots and hands that would be discussed thoroughly over water coolers and message boards.
It will be a near certain that Dwan will be returning to the High Stakes Poker Season 6 lineup, they couldn’t take the risk of leaving out the most entertaining star poker player who worked his way up from small stakes no limit Texas hold’em to become one of the best hold’em players in history.
There has been no information about the line up for season 6, but you can expect to see the return of Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson, Patrik Antonius, Daniel Negreanu, Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies, Eli Elezra, Peter Greenstein and many more.
At one point, there was high uncertainty that High Stakes would return to the Game Show Network after season 4. The network went through many changes including a new CEO and dumping the World Poker Tour. AJ Benza and Gabe Kaplan both came out and spoke about the ridiculousness of not renewing High Stakes Poker as it was highest rated show on the network. Needless to say, it was renewed at a last minute decision.
