Huck Seed Wins 2009 NBC Heads Up Poker ChampionshipThe NBC National Heads Up Poker Championship wrapped up this week with professional poker player Huck Seed as the last man standing. The final best of three match was against PokerStars swim suit model Vanessa Rousso. They played heads up for a first place prize of $500,000 and Seed won two straight against Rousso.

Huck Seed is most known for his world championship bracelet during the 1996 World Series of Poker Main Event. Shortly after the tournament Seed had this to say to the tournament officials, “This has always been one of my favorite tournaments of the year. I’ve played well in the past, but things especially went my way this weekend and I was able to make a run all the way to the top.”

It took seven players before Seed was claimed champion. The opponents he beat in order were: Jonathan “FieryJustice” Little, Gus Hansen, Glen Chorny, David Oppenheim, Sam Farha and finally Vanessa Rousso.

In 2006, Seed made an impressive run at the National Heads Up Poker Championship, but fell short to Chris Moneymaker in the semi finals. His total NBC heads up poker record is an amazing 18-4 which is an above 84% win rate. When Seed was asked if he considered himself one of the best heads up players he remained quite humbled and had this to say, “No, not really. But I enjoy these tournaments and I’ve had a couple nice runs in them.”

Rousso eliminated six opponents on her way to second place in the order of Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey, Paul Wasicka, Daniel Negreanu and Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier. She has also experienced success in the NBC heads up championships as she is now 7-3. With Rousso’s second place finish, she was rewarded with $250,000. Not to mention her brand new endorsement deal with GoDaddy, which was finalized moments before the event took place.
