Betfair Poker has stated that it has made an official offer to swimming god Michael Phelps. Betfair has offered to pay his way into the World Series of Poker Europe this September. In the recently concluded Beijing Olympic Games Michael Phelps became the first man to ever win 8 Gold Medals in one Olympics.
The 8 Gold’s broke the mark of 7 held by Mark Spitz in the 1972 Munich Games. His total career Olympic medal count is 6 Gold and 2 Bronze in Athens 2004, and 8 Gold in Beijing 2008 for 16 total medals.
During the Olympic Games Michael mentioned in an interview that one of his hobbies included playing poker, and that one day he would like to compete in the World Series of Poker. Upon hearing this Betfair offered Michael the opportunity to play on their dime, and as official sponsor of the event to be held at The Empire Casino in Leicester Square in London England. They have also stated that he is welcome to wear his famous LZR Swim Suit though organizers fear it will not grant him the same competitive edge it does in the pool.
At this time it is still unknown as to whether Michael has accepted or declined the invitation to play at the World Series of Poker Europe, but we guess that question will be answered at the End of September.
