The 2008 Aussie Millions Main Event had 780 entrants of which 338 survived one of the three “day ones” and 98 survived day two. Clonie Gowen was one of the first professional eliminated on day two when she ran into pocket kings after having already pushed all in with a suited Ace-Queen. Joe Hachem was the victim of a horrific beat when he raised from the button with 5-3 and managed to get his money all in on a flop of 7-3-3. He was quickly called by Peter Ling who had only pocket sixes but made the best hand when the board came a runner runner four flush and the former WSOP champion was sent to the rail early on day 2.
Hachem was not the only pro to suffer a bad beat elimination this day. Howard Lederer got his money all in with Ace-King and was out flopped by Raymond Rahme’s Ace-Nine.
Pacific Poker sponsored Shane Warne was eliminated mid-day when he raised to 5,500 and Kevin O’Donnel called him. Warne checked the flop but then called his remaining 16,500 chips when O’Donnell moved all in on him. O’Donnel was well ahead with pocket kings, but Warne had a gut shot straight draw and a flush draw. The turn and river were blanks for Warne and his debut as a professional poker player came to an end.
Other eliminations came in the form of John Juanda running pocket 5’s against pocket 10’s, Tony G pushing 4-5 against Terrence Chan’s K-10 and Ivey getting his money all in with bottom pair on the flop against his opponents two pair.
