The worlds largest poker site, PokerStars.com has released a tentative schedule for the 2009 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) with a massive $40 million guaranteed spread over 42 events.
The 2008 WCOOP had an impressive $30 million guarantee, and I honestly felt that it might be the last year we see significant growth in guarantee’s. I’m flabbergasted that the 2009 WCOOP is guaranteeing $10 million more!
The first event will begin September 3rd and the series will run until September 20th with the final tournament being the Main Event, which is a $5,200 buy-in, No Limit Texas Hold’em tournament holding a $10 million guarantee.
Pokerstars players and fans can expect to see several of their sponsored players playing in most of the events. Players that are expected to play include: Greg Raymer, Chris Moneymaker, Daniel Negreanu, Joe Hachem, Barry Greenstein, Vanessa Rousso, Ivan Demidov and 2008 WSOP main event champion Peter Eastgate.
Below is the tentative schedule. The events and buy-in amounts may be subject to change if it does not meet the players’ expectations. PokerStars is accepting feedback of the proposed line-up, so if something does not meet your standards contact them immediately at wcoop@pokerstars.com.
