The East coast has a new home for poker, the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut. The new expansion “Casino of the Wind” opened last week and will feature a beautiful new 42 table poker room. It was reported by the Hartford Courant newspaper that the expansion came with a $925 Million USD.
The Poker Room will have 24 Flat Screen TV’s and is close to Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville Restaurant. This is Mohegan Sun’s first poker offering since closing it’s poker room in 2003 prior to Chris Moneymakers run to the gold bracelet that sparked the boom we see today in the poker world. Mohegan Sun is planning a month of festivities to celebrate the grand opening of Casino of the Wind. It will include major musical acts such as The Who and Janet Jackson, as well as comedian Robin Williams.
With the current expansion and the creation of this poker room, Mohegan Sun & Casino of the Wind will bring much needed competition to Foxwoods Casino. Foxwoods is a well known source for poker on the east coast with its 100 table poker room, and two World Poker Tour stops this season. Uncasville, Connecticut is only a two hour drive from Boston and New York City so expect both these casinos to be busy.
