The Toronto Sun is reporting that on July 18, 2008 Police raided what they call four illegal gambling dens in both the cities of Toronto and Pickering Ontario Canada. The locations where on Dufferin Street, Chesswood Drive, Brock Road, and Steeles Ave. Of the four locations three were typically Industrial locations while the fourth was a restaurant/bar called Garden of Eden.

It took nearly forty law enforcement officers from the Organized Crime Section Illegal Gambling Unit of the Toronto PD, The Ontario Provincial Police, and the Durham Regional Police Force. All in all there were 46 people charged, 9 of which were charged with keeping an Illegal Gaming House, and 36 adults and 2 Youths where charged with being in an Illegal Gaming House.

Police seized $12,000 in cash from the players and equipment such as tables and chips valued at over $23,000. Of all adults charged (in Ontario to be considered an adult you must be over the age of 19) there ages ranged from 19 – 88 years of age. This is the second major raid conducted by authorities in Ontario in the last year as in November 2007 over 60 arrests were made.

What creates a problem for the Toronto Area is that it is the only major Metropolitan area in Canada that does not have legalized Casinos, and thus poker rooms. The nearest Casino/Poker room is at Casino Rama nearly a two hour drive from the Toronto Area.
