There is some great news from the Game Show Network, High Stakes is coming back. It was announced last week by GSN’s Director of Public Relations Jennifer Minezaki that the show would come back for a 5th season.

It had been said that the show wouldn’t return, regardless of the fact that is was far and away the highest rated show on the network. The reason for this was said to be that the network wanted to attract a younger demographic the all important 18 – 26 group. Where as High Stakes Poker attracted an older demographic, it was also rumored that the new boss at GSN hated poker.

High Stakes Poker revolutionized what a lot of poker fans thought about televised poker, as it showed fans the cash games aspect which is vastly more exciting. On the fourth season (last season) the show took that to a new level when instead of the usual 100k buy-in minimum it was upped to a staggering 500k!

A lot of poker fans will be very happy that it will makes it return to the air as there was a time when co-host A.J. Benza was fairly certain there would be no return. For any of you who have been in a card room the day after the show was on you can be sure to here some discussion on it!

As of right now everything is purely rumor as to what the formats will be for the 5th season as well as who will be the players. Right now some of those rumors include Jerry Yang, Tuan Lam and Daniel Negreanu will be some of the players whilst the Wynn will be the venue. Nothing has been confirmed and the only statements being made are that Minezak is commenting that many of these rumors are “inaccurate”.
