After two days of play they weren’t able to get down the final eight players that would comprise the final table for this event, instead we started today with 13 hopefuls remaining. There names chip stacks and seating assignments are as follows:

Seat 4 - Margaret Macre 173,000
Seat 5 - James Richburg 274,000
Seat 6 - Ron Long 33,000
Seat 7 - David Brooker 45,000
Seat 8 - Daniel Nicewander 41,000
Orange 40
Seat 1 - Mike Hefer 71,000
Seat 2 - Tim D’Alessandro 82,000
Seat 3 - David Sklansky 110,000
Seat 4 - Thomas Hunt III 101,000
Seat 6 - Alessio Isaia 172,000
Seat 7 - Joshua Feldman 121,000
Seat 8 - Jonas Klausen 346,000
Of the remaining hopefuls we have some notables including, David Sklansky who is a world authority on gambling, Ryan Hughes who won this event last year (since Harrah’s added a smaller buy-in this year to make 2 events they don’t consider this the same event as last year), as well as Ronald Long who won a bracelet in this event in 1999.
We are starting on Level 19 where the players will have a 2,000 ante with a 2,000 Bring in and a Completion of 8,000, an the Betting limits are 8,000/16,000. It didn’t take long for us to find our first causality of the day on a hand between Alessio Isaia and Mike Hefer. Isaia brought in and Helfer called
Isaia: x-x-7d
Helfer: x-x-Kh
Fourth Street brought Js for Helfer and 4c for Isaia, Helfer was first to act and bet Isaia called. Fifth Street brought 4s for Helfer and the 7s for Isaia, giving Isaia an open pair and first action he then bet and was called by Helfer. Sixth Street both players received a 6 with Helfer getting the 6s and Isaia getting the 6c, Isaia bet and Helfer moved all-in and to Helfer’s dismay Isaia announced “I call” “I have a full house” and showed 7h 4d 2h to go with his 7d 4c 7s 6c, and with that Mike Helfer will call it a day and take home $8,168 for his 13th place finish.
David Booker was knocked out soon after Mike Helfer when his Ad Kh Qd 8h 2h couldn’t out last the 6c 2d 5h 7d 3c of Ron Long after the money got in on Fifth Street. Booker received the 7c Js and Long picked up running 8’s to get the low and the high and knock out David Booker, who will receive $11,880 for finishing 12th.
Daniel Nicewander finished in 11th taking home $11,880 when he couldn’t best the 2 pair of Ryan Hughes when all the chips got into the middle on Seventh Street, this hand was followed by and interesting one in which Margaret Macre thought she was holding K’s full of J’s instead she had 3 pair and a busted straight draw which unfortunately left Ron Long with a scoop showing a 7 high straight a 6 low leaving Macre with only 30k and Long with 185k. After the big miss-step it didn’t take long for her to find the door after 8s 9s 9d 8c Ac 2d bricked out on 7th street and Feldman scooped the pot with Ah 5s 8d 3h 7s 7c As for a better 2 pair on the river to compliment his low. She takes home $15,593 for her 10th place finish.
In Harrah’s fashion we will use make shift rules (well it’s actually a rule of the game but rarely used) and we’ll play 9 handed using a community card when or if necessary. The seating assignment will be as follows:
1. Tim D’Alessandro
2. Jonas Klausen
3. David Sklansky
4. Joshua Feldman
5. Ryan Hughes
6. James Richburg
7. Ron Long
8. Alessio Isaia
9. Thomas Hunt III
Luckily it only took 4 minutes to find a player going home when James Richburg finished in 9th and claimed $15,593 after his chips were split amongst Feldman and Isaia.
Feldman: Ad Ah 7d 5c 5h 10s 2h
Richburg: x-x 9d Qd Ks Qs - x
Isaia: 3s 6s 4d 3d Qh 8d 7s
With the completion of that hand tournament officials are giving the players a 15 break so they can comprise player bio’s and so forth prior to the start of the final table.
After an important hand amongst the two chip leaders Isaia has taken the chip lead from Ryan Hughes after Isaia brought in then led on every street, his hand was
Isaia: 2d 7h 4d 6d 3d Jd As
Hughes: x-x 2c 9s 3s Kh x
The pot leaves Isaia with 350k and Hughes with 250k.
As level 19 was coming to a close we lost the great David Sklansky in a big 3 way pot in which the action was as follows Skalansky had 10k to start the hand after the ante he had one big bet which he put in after D’Alessandro completed the action, however Hughes surprised everyone with a raise and was called by D’Alessandro.
On Fourth Street the action between Hughes and D’Alessandro was check – check.
D’Alessandro: x-x 4s 2h As
Sklansky: x-x 8d Qd 6s
Hughes: x-x 7c Qc 10d
On Fifth and Sixth Street’s D’Alessandro bet and Hughes called, they then both check down on Seventh Street. When the hands were tabled Hughes and D’Alessandro split up Sklansky’s chips sending him home in 8th with $19,306 for his time.
D’Alessandro: Ax 6x 4s 2h As Ac 9x
Sklansky: 9x 7x 8d Qd 6s 7h 3x
Hughes: 2c 4x 7c Qc 10d 5h 3d
With the start of Level 20 the betting limits will be 10,000/20,000 with a 2,000 ante and a 3,000 low card bring in. Joshua Feldman was knocked out in 7th after his 2 pair on of J’s & 9’s when Klausen was able to improve his starting hand Ah Kd Ad with a Ks on Seventh Street, with that Joshua earned himself $23,019. The chip counts are now as follows:
Jonas Klausen - 463,000
Ryan Hughes - 450,000
Alessio Isaia - 265,000
Ron Long - 210,000
Tim D’Alessandro - 150,000
Thomas Hunt III - 120,000
Just shortly after Klausen took out Joshua giving him the chip lead he got into a pot with Ryan Hughes in which there 3 bets in on Third Street and one bet on every other street, Hughes has regained his chip lead and now sits at 540,000 approximately a third of all the chips in play. As the break was approaching Tim D’Alessandro found himself the next victim when his rolled up 10’s improved to a full house only to see Thomas Hunt improve his Kc As Ac Kd fill up on the same street with the Ad and to add insult to injury Thomas caught a 9c on Seventh street to give him another full house. With that Tim D’Alessandro is done in 6th taking an impressive $30,444. As we head to break the chip counts are as follows:
Ryan Hughes - 735,000
Jonas Klausen - 318,000
Alessio Isaia - 210,000
Thomas Hunt III - 200,000
Ron Long - 182,000
Ryan Hughes has nearly half the chips in play and is in position to win his second bracelet, in what most consider a dying game but as you see from this final table with 6 of the final 8 being in there early to mid 30’s at the most it’s not dead yet.
Level 21 brings betting limits of 12,000/24,000 with 3,000 ante and low card. After Klaussen dropped a 100k to Hughes in yet another big pot, Klaussen found his end at the hands of Ron Long. All the money got in on Fifth Street the hands were:
Klaussen: 2s 4c 3c Kc Qc
Long: 6d 2h Ac Jc 6c
To Klaussen’s dismay many of his outs were in Long’s hand and as would be expected he lost the hand after he went running 8’s neither of which were a club and Long picked up the Js on Seventh Street to win the pot and send Klaussen home with $39,355.
As Level 22 begins the limits are 15,000/30,000 with 3,000 ante and 5,000 low card and the chip stacks are as follows with Ryan Hughes now having over half of all chips in play
Ryan Hughes - 855,000
Ron Long - 374,000
Alessio Isaia - 340,000
Thomas Hunt III - 63,000
On a hand shortly after the start of level 22 Hunt doubled up by scooping a pot from Isaia with 2 pair 8’s and 5’s after Isaia’s pocket Deuce’s couldn’t improve, leaving him with 125k.
Hunt was able to dodge a few hands where is tournament life was on the line and that ended up good for him as Alessio Isaia went out on 4th when none other then Ryan Hughes drew out huge on Alessio and knocked him from the event, the hand played out as follows:
Hughes: 4c 5c 2c
Isaia: As Ah 10h
Hughes brings in Isaia completes, Hughes raises and Isaia calls
Fourth Street Brings
Hughes: 4c 5c 2c Kd
Isaia: As Ah 10h 6h
Hughes checks Isaia bets and Hughes calls, on Fifth Street Hughes picks up the Kh to give him open K’s he bets and is raised by Isaia who picked up the 6d to give him open 6’s and Hughes calls.
Sixth Street Brings
Hughes: 4c 5c 2c Kd Kh 3s
Isaia: As Ah 10h 6h 6d 9d
The action repeats it’s self from Fifth Street with Hughes betting then calling after being raised by Isaia. On Seventh Street Hughes bet and Isaia called all-in, and Hughes shows Isaia the King on the River and has eliminated Isaia who takes home $50,122. With that hand the chip counts are as follows:
Ryan Hughes 1,180,000
Ron Long 340,000
Thomas Hunt 85,000
The final 3 now find themselves on a break as Level 23 will commence once they return, with betting limits of 20k/40k and a 5k ante and bring in.
Unfortunately for Ron Long he couldn’t fade another player and found himself on the rail in 3rd after his 5c 3d 2c could only muster improving to a pair of 2’s against who else Mr. Hughes’s 3c 4d 3h who also could not improve but also did not need to. With that Ron Long takes $68,686 which is $18,564 more then he expected to I’m sure! And with that hand we are down to two and it will be a mountain for Thomas Hunt III to climb against Ryan Hughes as Hughes has him 4.5 to 1
Ryan Hughes 1,317,000
Ron Long 315,000
However in unexpected fashion Long was able to draw first blood as he made 2 pair in the first hand that made it the river and he has made his first chip into the mountain. Ron Long continued his upward trend with only one down turn however right after that down turn he took 3 pots in a row that made it to the river and the last was won with out showdown and has taken a small chip lead.
However the upswing hit a wall as Hughes 7h brought in and Long 8c completed, on Fourth Street Hughes 5d bet and Long 6s called. Same action occurred on Fifth Street as Hughes picked up a 9s and Long received the Qh. However Long led out on Sixth Street after he received the Qs for open pair of Q’s and was raised by Hughes who also got an open pair after receiving the 7c, and was called by Long. Long then check called the river and was shown 5’s in the hole giving Hughes 5’s full of 7’s and a hefty pot propelling Ryan up to 1.132 million to Ron’s 500k.
Right after the start of Level 24 we came to the final Showdown of this day as Ryan brought in with the 3s and Ron simply called showing the Ks. On Fourth Long bet out with Ks 7d and was raised by Hughes showing the 3s Kh, Long 3 bet it and was quickly 4 bet by Hughes and then capped by Long. When Long got the 6c on sixth street he moved all-in and was called by Hughes who picked up the 4h. The hands were tabled and read as follows:
Hughes: 7c 7h 3s Kh 4h
Long: Jh Kc Ks 7d 6c
Giving long the lead however when the 3d peeled of on 6th street for Hughes it didn’t look good for Long who caught running bricks and watched Hughes hot streak culminate with a 7s on 7th for the boat and the bracelet. All was for not as this native Botswanian will take home $113,240 for his efforts and can hold his head high as he made a match of it when the odds were way against him.
After capturing his second bracelet both in Stud Hi/Lo Ryan Hughes joked about his luck in this event, as both this year and last year he did not intend to play the event and did it only at the last minute. For his win he receives $183,368 and another piece of Corum Jewelry.
Thank you for taking the time to read this final table review and congratulations to all who played and for all but Ryan better luck next year!
