Yesterday Team Bodog announced the addition of Justin Bonomo to their roster. He will join existing Team Bodog members Evelyn NG, David Williams and Jean-Robert Bellande in representing the Bodog online poker room at televised tournaments around the world, starting with the 2008 WSOP in Vegas.
The online poker community might best remember Justin Bonomo as ZeeJustin and for the mistakes he made over two years ago when he was caught multi-accounting (cheating) in Party Poker and PokerStars tournaments. Justin has long since apologized, numerous times publicly, for his actions. Forgive him or not; it’s hard to argue that he is not one of the best poker players in the world.
At age 22, Justin Bonomo has already managed to add 14 final tables and 1.2 million dollars in career winnings to his live poker tournament resume. Considering he’s only been of legal age for a short time, there’s no telling how much he might accomplish during his career. Bodog should benefit greatly from Bonomo wearing the room’s black and red logo at live tournaments as so far he’s been nothing short of a final table machine.
Justin Bonomo has stated numerous time in the past that restoring his name in the poker community is important to him, as he hopes to make a positive contribution to poker. While some members of the community may continue to hold the “February of 2006 ZeeJustin scandal” over his head, his sponsorship with a major online poker room, in Bodog Poker, should go a long way in helping him further build a name for himself as Justin Bonomo and not just ZeeJustin.
In our humble opinion this is a great move for both Bodog and Justin Bonomo as it helps progress a long sour situation in a more positive direction. Anything that does that is most likely good for poker.
Editor’s note: Players wishing to join Justin Bonomo at the 2008 WSOP can qualify online to play the $10,000 main event as a Team Bodog member. For full details visit www.bodoglife.com
