The 2008 Aussie Millions Main field has been narrowed to 330 players. 780 players, including many of the biggest names in poker, anted up a $10,000 entry fee to create a prize pool of a whopping 7.8 million dollars. Now that the three day ones have been completed, all remaining players will be grouped together for the first time tomorrow.
Day 1-A was comprised of 215 entrants including numerous big name professionals. Last years main event runner up, Jimmy ‘gobboboy’ Fricke, was one of the 124 who were unable to survive the day. Some other notable day 1-A eliminations included Mike Sexton, Lee Watkinson, Gavin Smith and Brandon Schaefer.
Leading the pack after day 1-a was last years third place finisher Andrew Black. Rayond Rahme, coming off his strong WSOP performance, also faired well finishing the day in 11th place. Other notable day 1-a players still in the field are Nikolaus Jedlicka, Tom Durrr, Erik Seidel, Allen Cunningham and Tony G.
Day 1-B saw 294 more entrants. Making an early exit was Mansion.com sponsored Shannon Elizabeth. Other notable eliminations included last years Main Event winner Gus Hansen, Josh Field (JJ Prodigy), Chris Ferguson, Patrik Antonius and Phil Laak. Phil Ivey finished the day ahead of the pack with other professionals Jeff Lisandro (3rd place with 138K chips), Max Pescatori (4th with 137K chips) and Joe Hachem (7th with 111K chips) on his trail.
Day 1-C had 270 take the felt, of which approximately 120 survived. Eliminations included 2006 Aussie Millions Main Event winner Lee Nelson, Tony Hachem (Brother to 2005 WSOP Main Event Winner), ActionJeff’ Garza and Annette Obrestad (Annette_15).
There were a number of notable players surviving day 1-C which included Soren Eriksen (1st with 150K), Kenna James (4th with 100K), Howard Lederer, Chip Jett, Mike ‘The Mouth’ Matusow and Alex Kravchenko.
The field has now been narrowed to approximately 330 players who will reconvene tomorrow to play Day 2. Here is the combined top 10 leaderboard with all day 1’s merged together:
