Today a list was published naming 60 of the 2008 National Heads-Up Poker Championship competitors. Getting to participate in this event is quite special as for the most part it is an invite only tournament. Included in the list of entrants are defending champion Paul Wasicka and previous champions Ted Forrest and Phil Hellmuth and many other top names in poker.
While most of the invitees are best known for their poker proneness NBC does invite a few Hollywood celebrities who share a passion for poker. 2008 invites falling under this category include Jason Alexander, Brad Garrett and Shannon Elizabeth.
The National Heads-Up Poker Championship is annual tournament which began in 2005. The structure pits 64 players against one another in a single elimination bracket tournament with initial seeding determined by random draw. This year’s event will take place at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada from February 29 – March 2 and will be taped for television.
This year players will pay a $20,000 entrance fee to create a 1.28 million dollar prize pool. The top 4 finishers will be paid with $500,000 going to first place.
