Prefers: Texas Hold'em | I think one of the wisest things Ive ever heard someone say about poker was said by Phil Ivey when someone asked him what his strategy was going to be when going into a poker tournament. He replied "I have no strategy, Im just gonna sit down and see what everyone else is doing" I can't say it much better than that. If you are going to have a set strategy, there is gonna be lots of poker tables that you can't beat. The best strategy is one that counters your opponent's strategy. You might have a table that is easily bluffed or they could be very tight players. The formula to success is always going to be different, and you can't be afraid to change things up. Bruce lee once said "Water can flow, or it can crash... be water my friend" I hate to quote Bruce Lee and Sun Tsu in this forum on the same day, but there it is. A lot of tournament poker can be thought of as more of a philisophical thing, especially if you are playing with deep stacks. tournaments are about survival and maneuvering. Playing good poker and reading cards etc is just sort of the means by which things are accomplished. Consider it your arsenal, but your arsenal doesnt tell you how to fight a war, it just gives you your options. You still have to decide where to point your weapons and who to fight.. ie, who to chase flush draws against, who to bluff against, who to check raise etc. |
