Do you, or anyone else, use these for tournaments?
My cash game play has pretty much been on small sites where I know the players (mostly propping) all my serious play is at tournaments.
I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit that I've never used either of those softwares but I always got the impression there benefit is mostly for cash game.
Very curious to hear from tournament players regarding these tools.

I believe these programs become a lot more valuable when players start Data-mining... which I think is wrong and could potentially be argued as "cheating" But that is for another topic..

From my experience you need to spend a lot of time with the poker tracker. Not only to set them up, but to study your game after each session. However, this will help improve your game exponentially.

As for tournaments the HUD is definitely worth it, after each show down players cards will be flipped up on the table. So you're receiving information a lot easier.

It does that at Stars? If so I'm sold

I've never used any software either. I think it is about time to start using these programs. I tend to rely on gut instinct a fair bit but its a lot harder when playing multiple tables.

Thanks for reminding me of these programs guys.

yeah but the price is steep at 90 bucks. I used these when the beta version was free, and i do have to say it is a tremendous help, but when one is making decisions to win/loose .50 or less.... 90 bucks is a hard investment to overcome

I would have thought that the program would repay itself pretty quickly? I guess it does depend what limits you are playing at...

There is a new version of Poker Tracker in beta testing now so you may be able to try it for free. The new version (Poker Tracker 3) includes the HUD so no need for Poker Ace. The new one seems to have alot of much needed upgrades. I have not tried it myself as I'm waiting for them to get the bugs out.

I think the price of PokerTracker is fairly reasonable. Plus it's only a one time payment. Nothing worse then buying software that you need to keep paying for the newest version.

here is a great free HUD with overall great features. HH in side bar with formats for various forums. a great thing about HR u do not need PT for it to work. Also great for tourneys. clean and easy to configure.

I'm definitely going to buy PT3 in the next couple days, the price is easily worth it at $89. Its slicker and better looking, easier to use than PT2 OR Poker Office (who made a huge mistake with an annual fee), has the integrated HUD, does graphs, wicked. I'd pay up to $200-300 for it if they charged that.

I have bought PT3 and can safely say that it is 100% worth it. It runs so smoothly and comes with its own HUD, graphing ability and more stats than PT2 (3bet% calls 3bet etc.). It is awesome.

Jim, it all depends on where you play tourney's at.

With Stars, PT is just a pain in the fucking ass for tourney's, because you have to manually go through and enter all the fucking details, where you finished, what it paid, I guess the problem is there is not enough info in stars HH's.

Stars does have a feature where they can email you the tourney history, and you can import that into PT, but you can't do more than like 5 or so at a time, and you have to do that every fucking time.

Like me for instance, I checked out the PT3 beta cause it was free, I had about 800 tourney histories, imported them, and I would have had to do all that bullshit, 800 fucking times.

I personally play tourney's on stars, cash on carbon. Sure, I checked out PT3 beta at the cash games on stars, it's good for those, I'll give it that, but it's just not necessary for tourney's on stars.

Also, I will say this, from a .... less financially secure, person's point of view.

It's so fucking overpriced. It's bullshit. They fucking rape you, 90 fucking dollars.

Just because these fucking high stakes player's with tons of money are willing to pay it, they fucking rape you.

90 fucking dollars. Fucking anti virus software isn't even that much. And when it comes down to it, with windows, regarding financial matters online such as online poker and banking, what's more important, pokertracker, or fucking anti virus?

It's way fucking overpriced. I have no need for it.

Aidan, I think you do have to pay for the newer versions, I read something on 2+2 a couple weeks ago, some poster saying something like "I have PT2, I can't wait to buy PT3".

something like that.

I dont see how you can think its overpriced at all. Its such useful software, and PT3 is a big upgrade on PT2, the graphs, the interface, they improved a lot. $90 is really nothing in the scheme of things, considering how much it helps you evaluate your game.

You dont have to import each tournament individually, or 5 at a time, just set the import function to auto and it will do it all on its own.

What a pointless and incorrect rant. Pretty funny, imo.

its overpriced. 90 dollars??? really??? i can think of many MANY different programs (including most pc/console games) that have taken SOOOO many more man hours to develop. they still sell for 60 bucks or less... granted they usually sell many more copies to recoup this cost... but still... 90 bucks to help you poker game doesnt make it worth it... unless you are a big baller at 100+NLHE IMO.

Poker office for free> PT3

Price is all based on reference point, but it seems that no matter what limits you play the software should eventually pay for itself. It just might take many more months for it to pay off for a low limit player.

When we get this site staffed up better, I'll most likely get back into propping a few hundred hands a day myself just to stay sharp and will most likely purchase it at this time.

Thanks guys for the feedback.

I have PT3 and PAH, and I gotta say, they are well worth the money. The level of information it can keep track of is far more than a person, and even without datamining, it's extremely useful for both cash games and tournaments. If you play a lot of tables, a tracking software is a must, as it increases your winrate by allowing you information on a variety of players that you wouldn't normally be able to follow yourself. It makes 8+ tabling a plausible reality for people who don't have a photographic memory.
