Default The Double Stopper Bet

I hate this move, but I supposed thats because I can never figure out why people are doing this. when someone makes a tiny bet into a huge pot, its easy to assume that they are trying to get a card cheap, so I usually raise them on the flop when they do this.

what really gets me, is that I will raise them on the flop, then they make another stopper bet into me on the turn. Its just weird and it completely throws me off. It used to mean that players still wanted a cheap card so I would keep raising, nowadays folks do this with the nuts just to get me to raise.

the crux is that they usually either get their river card cheap like they wanted, or they get raised and they have the nuts. I always seem to be guessing wrong on this one

I guess this is one of those trendy things that you really need to play everyday to stay on top of. this seems to be one of the only ways that people can really confuse me at the table and induce me to play poorly.

I might be reading your post wrong. If not imo this is one of those situations where the general philosophy in live poker is much different than in online poker.

The small bet followed by the small raise in online poker I generally find to be quite strong, less so online. I guess I need more hand examples though to know exactly what you're referring to.

If a pot is 5K on the flop and someone bets $100 into it. I can handle this because I just raise to about 4-5K.

Now the pot is pushing 15K on the turn, and they bet $100 again into me. This is where I usually do the wrong thing. I can either give them the river card for $100... or make a big re-raise... into a player who is doing something really strange (I try to avoid this in general). So, this is either a great way for my opponent to get a really cheap river card, or a great way to get me to stuff another 15K into the pot while drawing dead.

I probably make the opposite mistake as you. I usually read bets like this as a slow lead (perhaps in times where I'm getting duped for a cheap card?), where the player is looking to represent weakness while really strong. I often don't perceive it as trying to get a cheap card unless I'm playing against an extremely weak or novice player who is unlikely to have the slow lead in his arsenal.

I get duped both ways, Im just guessing at this point and i always seem to be guessing wrong. Whatever they want me to do, I usually seem to do it.
