Event #56, $5,000 buy-in NLHE 6 max marked the last preliminary tournament of the 2009 World Series of Poker. On June 30, the event started with 928 entrants, returning yesterday (July 2) there were 16 players remaining all vying for a covered WSOP bracelet and the $1,003,128 top place prize. In the end it was online poker sensation Matt Hawrilenko, known also as Hoss_TBF who took down the first bracelet of his career.

Event 55 was the only deuce-to-seven triple draw event on this year’s WSOP schedule. The event attracted 258 entrants who each anted up the $2,500 buy-in to create a total prize pool of $593,400 with $165,521 allocated to first place. After three long days of play 36 year-old professional poker player from New York NY Abe Mosseri walked away from the event with his first career WSOP bracelet to go with the top place prize money.

Tony Veckey is a 30-year-old software engineer from Lake in the Hill, IL, who has worked for Motorala since graduating college. A few days ago he made his very first trip to the Rio in Las Vegas entering his first World Series of Poker Event. This decision paid off as last night he took home $673,276 top place prize money as well as a coveted WSOP bracelet by winning the final $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event of the 2009 WSOP.

2009 WSOP Event #53, $2,500 Stud Hi/Lo had 14 players return for day three. When it was said and done the events champion was David J. Halpern, a 54-year-old attorney from New Orleans who captured his first career bracelet and the $159,048 top place prize money. In doing so he outlasted a tough field that included Chad Brown, Allie Prescott, Matt Savage, Vince Burgio, and three-time bracelet winner Dr. Max Stern.

Jorg Peisert is $506,800 richer this morning as last night he picked up his first career WSOP bracelet, winning 2009 WSOP Event 52 – $3,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Triple Chance. His victory also gave Germany their second bracelet of the 2009 WSOP, the previous coming a night earlier. Last year there were three German Bracelet winners and prior to last year’s series there were only four total. This means Jorg Peisert the ninth German in history to win a WSOP bracelet.

37-year old professional poker play David Bach claimed the second annual Chip Reese Trophy last night by winning 2009 WSOP Event 49, $50,000 buy-in HORSE. The final table lasted an astonishing 492 hands and commenced with a seven-hour long heads up battle between Bach and the runner up finisher John Hansen.
