Once again, Amarillo Slim has been robbed and beaten up, this time being robbed of $8,000 in cash and a $75,000 7.5 carat diamond ring. He also received a broken thumb and hand to go along with his losses. Slim was lured into a field thinking he was going to be collecting a four wheeler as collateral to a $3,000 gambling debt he was owed. “The four-wheeler didn’t come, but the bogeyman did,” Slim said.

Adam Peck came out in first place at the 2009 Aussie Millions Event 13, $1,100 Mixed Hold’em tournament. The blinds got so steep at the final table, which made the first place prize of $25,000 AUD up to anyone who got the hot cards, which was Peck.

A new tour has been launched by PokerStars and it is being called the Australian New Zealand Poker Tour and its first season is set to run from February until July of 2009. The first stop is slated for February 4-7th at the Sky City Casino in Adelaide, South Australia and will feature a main event buy-in of $3,250 AUD with a 240 player cap. PokerStars has also said that WSOP Main Event winner Joe Hachem and several other Team PokerStars players will be attending.

The struggling World Poker Tour had an excellent turn out for their first event of 2009, which was the Southern Poker Championship in Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi, MS. The main event drew 283 players and created a prize pool of $2.6 million. Allen Carter won the tournament and was awarded with $1 million and his first WPT title.
