A press release came out late Tuesday night naming Eric “Risen” Lynch the newest member of Ultimate Bet’s team. Annie Duke speaks about how excited they are to have both Lynch and Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy as part of their team because of their integrity (keep you day job Duke, your sales skills suck). They also say “The new addition leaves the online poker community speculating on who’s next”. Perhaps we should release a press release in response breaking the news to Ultimate Bet that “no one really cares”.

Back in 2005 I recall syndicating an article describing Ladbrokes Poker as the best kept secret in online poker. They’ve always offered all sorts of extravagant promotions and easy to clear bonuses, but no matter what they did they remained simply a medium sized online poker room owned by a corporate giant. Yes, Ladbrokes was owned not only by UK’s top bookmaker but by the Hilton Hotel Group. I stumbled across a press release issued Monday which hinted Ladbrokes Poker might just have finally grown tired of being a well kept secret. Their website has been completely overhauled to make all the wonderful things they offer much more visible and easier to navigate.

If you follow online poker and are a member of popular poker forums you’ve likely heard of the prop bet a two plus two poster WGCRider, real name Doug Polk, has made with fellow forum members. He has approximately $20K at risk to win $50K that he win $10,000 playing only $25 buy-in No Limit Holdem at PokerStars in 31 days or less. When this news first broke many thought it was an impossible challenge but after playing 20 some odd tables at a time for 16 or more hours per day while broadcasting himself on a webcam, after 11 days he finds himself up $3,000. He’s a bit behind the pace needed to make the mark but he recently came off a streak of 50,000 break even hands and if he can avoid this in the coming days he can likely find himself catching up quite quickly. This is obviously a monster sized prop bet, in terms of challenge involved, which we will be now following closely.

David Singer managed to accomplish, what at this time we suspect could have been, a first time occurrence by cashing in two WSOP events on the very same day. What happened is Singer decided to enter Event #3 of the WSOP on June 2, 2008 which started at noon. He got off to a hot start in that tournament when Day 2 of WSOP Event #2 got started 2 hours later, a tournament in which he had 14,500 chips in (a short stack). He managed to earn himself a spot in the money in both tournaments on this same day. What an incredible start to the WSOP he’s had. He’ll be heading into Event #3 day two already in the money as one of the big stacks later this afternoon.

A flopped Ace sealed the deal for Korean-born Australian David Saab who walked out of the Dusit Thani Mainla hotel $280,000 richer and the first Asian Poker Tour (APT) champion of 2008. This Philippians event victory marked Saab’s first major tournament cash outside his home country. He is best known for his victory in the $5,000 buy-in heads up Championship at the 2007 Aussie Million, but also has 5 other high stakes cashes including a 3rd place finish in the $1,000 buy in of the 2006 Australia Poker Championship at the Crown Vic. Chris Roh from South Korea finished as the runner up last night and received $150,000 for his second place performance.

The third day of action of the 2008 WSOP in Las Vegas is now in the books. This day, June 1st, 2008 saw the 2008 WSOP’s first bracelet go to Nenad Medic who defeated Mike Sexton, Kathy Liebert and finally Andy Bloch in the late hours of the night. PartyGamings stock recently jumped 10% after the New York Poker reported Saturday that the US Department of Justice and PartyGaming are close to an amnesty agreement. Some sources have reported this settlement may involve PartyGaming paying the US government as much as $1 Billion Dollars. An agreement like this would almost certainly put Party Poker first in line if and when the US legalizes gambling and begins issuing licenses. If PartyGaming does clear up any potential legal issues with the US, it could open the company up for a potentially lucrative buyout or merger.

Television poker had had its share of bad news recently with High Stakes Poker and the World Poker Tour not having a home and all. At least its refreshing to see one network is taking poker very seriously. NBC announced last week that they’ve signed a 4 year deal with Caesars Entertainment which means the show will likely be around at least another four season.

Nenad Medic has outlasted the 352 player field in Event #1 of the 2008 World Series of Poker. He managed to outlast a strong final table which saw Mike Sexton finish in 4th, Kathly Liebert finish in 3rd and Andy Bloch finish as the runner up. Medic took home $794,112 for his 1st place finish and also is the first bracelet winner of the 2008 WSOP.
