Rises in poker popularity through out regions of Asia has experts predicting this will be the source of the next great poker boom, much like the US experienced in 2004-2005. Whether or not these predictions come to pass, there is plenty benefiting from the recent poker surges in Asia as an APT event has increased its guaranteed payout to 1.5 million, the largest in Asian Poker history. June 5th marked the seventh consecutive day of WSOP Las Vegas action. Today the big stories where Michael Banducci and Thang Luu winning their first bracelets. Also day two of both Event #7 $2,000 buy-in NL Holdem and Event #8 $10,000 buy-in Mixed Games Championship Day 2 wsre played today and both have been played down to a final table. Last but not least we saw Events nine and ten got their starts today.

Every WSOP since 2005 Thang Luu has had an opportunity to win a bracelet. In 2005 he finished third in a NLHE Event, in 2006 he finished ninth in an event at the time had set an entrants record with a field of 2891 players. Last year he got extremely close in a $2K buy-in Omaha/8 event but would finish runner up behind only Frank O’Dell. Last night would finally be his night as Thang Luu defeated Spencer Lawrence to capture the $243,356 top place prize money and perhaps more importantly his first WSOP bracelet.

If you’re familiar with the real names of online poker superstars and you were handed a list of the final table participants you’d probably think the WSOP was a typo and assume it was a Sunday Millions or WCOOP event. This is because last night the final table was made up of Michael Banducci who is better known online as worldsgrtest“ and “luckylady519” as well as Jeff “yellowsub86 “ Williams, Jonathan “fatal error“ Aguiar, Jamie “chronic420“ Rosen, and Steve “gboro780″ Gross. Also in the field was two time WPT Champion Michael Binger. In the end it would be luckylady519 vs yellowsub86 with the former of the two coming out on top earning himself his first WSOP bracelet.

June 4, 2008 was another busy day at the Rio as six WSOP events were played today. We saw events three and four conclude with David Singer and Erick Lindgren walked away with their first WSOP bracelets. The final table of event’s five and six were determined today and Michael Banducci and Thang Luu have themselves the chip leads. Finally two additional events kicked off today, the $2,000 No Limit Texas Hold’em event #7 and the prestigious Event #8 $10,000 buy-in mixed game championship. A star studded field of nine remaining players returned to the Rio last night to decide the 2008 WSOP Event #4 championship. In the end it was Justin Bonomo again Erick Lindgren. On the final hand both players had made a strong heads up hands on the turn and both got their money in on the river. It was Erick Lindgren’s turned straight that beat out Bonomo’s turned 2 pair. This was Erick Lindgren’s first WSOP bracelet. He already had 2 WPT titles a PPT and an Aussie Millions title with over $5 million in career winnings before tonight’s final table victory.

David Singer has shown over recently months he without question is one of the greatest poker player in the world. Despite having finished runner up in both WPT and WSOP events, having 4 million dollars in career winnings and recently taking down the $25K buy-in Full Tilt heads up championship he had never won a bracelet before. This all changed last night when after a 5 hour long marathon heads up battle with Jacobo Fernandez, Singer captured the 2008 Event 3 WSOP title which included $214,131 top place prize money and to him more importantly the coveted WSOP gold bracelet

June 3rd marked the fifth day of action at the 2008 WSOP. If you thought yesterday report was chaotic you haven’t seen anything yet as today five tournaments were played simultaneously. Event 2 say 18 players return for the final day and in the late night hours the second 2008 WSOP bracelet was awarded. Meanwhile events 3 and 4 kicked off their day twos today where the final table participants have been determined and events 5 and 6 got their starts. Grant Hinkle a 27-year-old marketing manager from Kansas City, MO accomplished the dream of many poker players last night. He managed to win himself a World Series of Poker championship gold championship bracelet along with $831,462 in cash. He was playing his first WSOP event and recently got into poker after seeing his brother Blair Hinkle (known online as ‘blur5f6’) have so much success. He scored himself a deal with Bodog Poker before the final table started and his mother, brother and father all caught a last minute flight to Vegas and watched live as he took down the championship. He was short stacked when the final table began but managed to build a large chip stack when using the advice his brother Blain provided him, which was to be aggressive. On the final hand he had 7 million and his opponent had 5 million chips. He 4 bet his opponent all in on a stone cold bluff tabling ten four suited. He managed to flop a miracle ten ten four and then made quads on the turn. Despite some amazing luck in the end he had truly played solid poker through out the event.

The second Everest Poker Avalanche tournament is now in the books, and the winner is Ismael Arribas from Madrid Spain. This was a battle between youth vs age as the ten finalist were well split between ages 21 to 55. In the end it was youth would won that battle. 26 year old Munoz took first place, 25 year old Wing Kwok Tang from the Netherlands took second and 25 year old Brice Cousin from Paris took third.
