World Poker Tour has found itself in serious trouble regarding their television future. GSN has let another deadline pass and from the sounds of it, unless its buy-rate TV, their days on that network are over. With the companies stock approaching penny-stock status, their loss of Budweiser sponsorship, and now having been cancelled by two networks: Where does the WPT go from here? Might we see something like “FullTiltPoker.net Presents WPT Season VII Championship on FSN” or might WPT find another television deal or sponsor to do the same, or could WPT’s days be numbered? To think this once powerhouse show could soon turn into a buy-rate TV program (like infomercials use) is perplexing, but in reality WPT has no one to blame but themselves. This company has perhaps stolen from the hand that fed them one to many times. To refresh your memory it was online poker rooms such as PokerStars and PartyPoker that helped make the WPT big, what did they do? They decided they were popular enough now, and launched their own online poker room, which of course failed. Also Shana Hiatt got to expensive and she was let go as well, there was also the deal with player wavers, the video games etc, but we’ll let those ones go for now. The big thing now is WPT needs to merely find a way to survive before it starts looking to rebuild. They have some money to do so, but they won’t have that money forever if trends continue.., It will be interesting to see how this all turns out.
