Max the Italian Pirate Pescatori was off to a decent World Series with 2 cashes before coming into tonight’s final table, but event so it had carried with it much disappointment. Deep into another event he had flopped top set with queens while his two all in opponents had nothing, but a couple running cards sent him to the rail in that event. All previous tough beats from this WSOP are now distant memories as last night the Pirate took down Event #24 winning his second career bracelet while outlasting fellow Full Tilt Poker pro Allen Cunningham and tournament veteran Mihn Ly at the final table.

Event #23 defied odds in many ways last night, it was nothing short of a magical event, it’s a true shame it was not a televised final table as ESPN is missing out big time having not selected this one. First of all what are the odds of AA vs KK on back to back final table hands? This occurred early. Also in the end Blair Hinkle took both his final two opponents out on separate hands both while holding 66 and hitting a 6 on the second door card of the flop, odds of that? Last but not least Blair Hinkle became the second in his family to win their first WSOP bracelet in 2008. His brother Grant, who had never played a live high stakes tournament before, topped Chris Ferguson in Event #2 just ten days earlier to score himself a bracelet as well. ESPN must be kicking themselves for having not filmed this one.

Jens Voertmann has had some recent success since taking up poker seriously in 2005. He was recently signed as Full Tilt Poker pro, had won a major tournament and cashed in a few others, but last night he faced the biggest challenge of his poker career. He was at a $3K buy-in H.O.R.S.E WSOP final table against the likes of The Flying Dutchman Marcel Luske, Team Brunson’s Hoyt Corkins, Team Full Tilt’s Jennifer Harmon, fellow Full Tilt Poker Pro Steve Zolotow, and Jared Davis who had a WSOP runner up finish under his belt. In the end he did the improbable and walked away with his first career bracelet and the $298,253 top place prize money.

Vanessa Selbst won her first WSOP bracelet last night in Event #19, $2000 Pot Limit Omaha, making her the first woman to win a 2008 WSOP event in an open entry event. It was a wild and crazy finish as her heads up opponent had been enjoying cocktails and taking shots and then decided to just play for the bracelet blind.
