PokerStars one upped this competitor Full Tilt again this weekend when they signed Victoria Coren to be the latest member of team PokerStars. The two sites have been back and forth for a while and Coren is most certain a great addition as she provides exposure in the UK market where she is known for more than just her poker accomplishments. For example, she receives additional recognitions for being the daughter of late humor journalist Allen Coren, for her regular columns published in The Observer and The Guardian, and for her career as a television commentator where she hosts shows such as “Celebrity Poker Club”. In 2006 she became the first female player to win an EPT Title.

David Chiu watched Gus Hansen eliminated all the other final table players in just 22 hands and when the two reached heads up play Gus Hansen had 23 million chips to Chiu’s 4.3 million. 56 hands later Chiu gained a slight lead and it took him just 2 additional hands to deny the Great Dane his forth WPT Title. David Chiu is crowned the 2008 WPT Champion and now has over 6 million dollars in career tournament winnings.

Nancy Todd Tyner overcame huge odds last night to win the first ever WPT Ladies League Championship event. On her quest to the 2008 Championship she defeated the likes of Karina Jett – 7th place, Van Nguyen – 6th place and Vanessa Selbst – runner up. The final table will air on the Game Show Network on August 18th.

Sun Poker issued a press release today which announced the addition of a flash poker room, requiring no download for real money online poker play, to go along with the full Windows download version they’ve offered since 2002. The Sun Poker website no proudly displays a Mac logo and the Linux Penguin.

Lee Jones has been named the new Chief Operating Officer (COO) of CardRunners.com. Jones is very well liked in the poker community and is best known for his 5 year stint as the PokerStars.com card room manager and for his best selling book, Winning Low Limit Holdem.

The lawsuit players such as Andy Bloch, Annie Duke, Chris Ferguson, Phil Gordon and Howard Lederer filed against the World Poker Tour back in 2006 has been settled. This suit had alleged the WPT had violated anti trust laws and was using player’s images and names without permission. The WPT denies any wrong doing but has settled by changing their player release forms and claims they prefer at this stage to focus on corporate growth rather than on litigation.
